‘You cannot trust the weather and Kurram’s situation.’ This local idiom describes the volatility of the Kurram district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where those who fled the 2007 vortex of sectarian killings between Shia and Sunni Tribesmen still refuse to return as they fear conflict could break out again at any time. As the sectarian strife intensified, 38 villages were either razed to the ground or their residents fled in fear and panic, leaving behind their homes and farms to divine providence.
