Islamabad: The Wakhis settlements are located on the border areas of Afghanistan, China, Pakistan, and Tajikistan. As it is a semi-pastoral society dependent on livestock and agriculture, the members of this community had historically been in search of highlands and meadows, owing to scarce resources at hand to survive.  Historians also claim that ancestral traces of Wakhi community link to Iran and Wakhan corridor.

Sarah Inam, the Girl Who Dabbled in Journalism

Islamabad: Back in 2008 I had only recently been employed as the media manager at the Competitiveness Support Fund, a USAID project, in Islamabad. The outgoing manager warned me there were a lot of responsibilities. These included preparing press releases, success stories, and documentaries, updating the project website, networking with journalists in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad, taking care of the Innovation Journalism Program in collaboration with Stanford University, and organizing and executing the World Economic Fund Executive Survey in Pakistan.

The 2005 Earthquake In Kashmir: Remembering The Deadly Disaster That Hit Pakistan

Islamabad: With 13,000 deaths and practically every house rendered uninhabitable, the days after the first earthquake were the most tough for survival. By a strange coincidence on October 8 2022 when I reminisce of that cataclysmic day it was again a Saturday just like the one on October 8 2005.

People mostly were taking nap after Ramadan sehri while children were at school. The tragedy at schools was another sad chapter as the school buildings collapsed and at several places children lay buried beneath the collapsed roofs.

The pain and anguish of the affected parents was indescribable. The civil administration and police were equally affected and there was no semblance of government apparatus. The army rose to the occasion despite its own heavy losses and cleared the roads from Rawalpindi to Bagh and other earthquake affected areas.
